About Mumbai

Like me, my buddy Loku also shares the same love for great cities...especially Mumbai... and when he first visited me there, he expressed his emotions in a fantastic mail which somehow inspired me a little to write this blog about NYC.....

The original un-edited text from loku is here ......

Sunday,Feb 1 2004,just the start of another wonted layoff ,(atleast that was the my maiden impression for the day,
as not even in my whimsical dreams could i have imagined of having my lunch at a place almost 200 kms from my revered bed),
except that I had to get up at 8 on a weekend (unusual!),
yes it was a conspicuous day for my friend ,but for me ? no way, barring the india australia match ,which had infused some
spark in the otherwise soporific affairs.

At 11 i was having an internal hassle ,whether to go to mumbai or not (as the conditions turned out),and finally as usual the city of dreams had its play .At around 12 i was on my way to mumbai.

Was i nervous??I dont think so ,bcoz 9 months of work had infused quite a bit of confidence in my inner self(experience does matters). Still, i had one or two occasions of brushing the outskirts of the city ,but this was the first time i was entering the soul of mumbai, the "BIG BOMBAY".My friend told me ,around 15 million people were earning or losing their dreams (and i dont even know 15 of them)
m i so new or the city so old ??,second assertion seems to be more plausible)
Ya i believed him immediately (which i normally dont do ,sorry avishekh)
But those 15 million people were right in front of my naked eyes and soul rustling in and out of their's faithfully ,the "BOMBAY LOCALS"
.15 million souls ,15 million different individuals ,but all(if not all then almost all),
with the same harbor, the "local trains", "VT to DADAR" "to ANDHERI" to "CHURCH GATE" and the never ending list of platforms ,with one simple anticipation
"I might get to sit atleast today".
Well atleast that was mine ,which immediately got shattered the moment natives threw me inside the train.
(Well that was the picture on sunday, good heavens! i was there on a vacation day)

Immediately, a sense of fear filled me ,i had lost my friend,
(having no idea where to get down and more importantly which way to get down from )
But there he was ,having a composed eye on me .
(once more, good heavens!)
Now comes the best part of it ,the sanguine view of Arabian sea big and handsome .
(All the mumbaias know him (lucky him!),i believe he is the biggest of all the stars).
It has ben scrutinizing mumbai from "Band stand" ,from" marine drive"
,taking a view of antithetic tastes of life .
"can u please lend me some of ur experience ??" I asked him .

"No way i have been here since ages and this is my birthright" was his reply

i will definitely interview the big boss one day and he agreed to it .Afterall he is the only one with spare time in BOMBAY.
While moving on the streets ,I managed to sneak into some pretty faces
(as usual ,the typical boyish character)
but what i found was a bit strange and unusual. Those lots and lots of pretty faces were carrying loads of thoughts in their little mind, (yes !faces are mirrors for the mind).
I would have loved to get inside their mind to get an idea ,but that would be much an easier job for someone from themselves.Faithfully ,i would have loved to talk with them for eternity on that out of age experience
"Mr Arabian u r not the only one out there ,experienced".
He gave a smile at my catch.

Who dare to say there is only one shahrukh khan ,amitabh bachhan ??
Move around the mumbai city .Every street embodies of one superstar and while moving along u cant help but notice them .Specially on platforms ,someone told me that u can find lots of insanes imitating some actors .But i dont consider them insane After all they are doing wut they want n doin it elegantly. The only difference being that they arnt getting paid for this .

No no no , i didnt missed it ,how could have I??the sharukh's bunglow ,though i just managed to see the surrounding wall ,but that was just sufficient to give my escorts enough sense of pride .ya i do missed Gateway of India ,but that doesnt matter, what matters more is to be acquainted with either shahrukh's or amithabh's residence .in recent days it has gained much more importance then that old and deteriorating monument .
Dont believe me ??
Just ask ny kid where does shahrukh lives ??
All hands raised .
BOMBAY!
was the unanimous choice ,and the bill got approved with full majority .
Now where is Gateway of india ??
Half the hands go down with some hiding their faces ,others not sure
"May be in Bombay or Delhi "
Not sure, yes but they do manage to give something to choose its destination ,a wide range from BOMBAY to delhi .In fact govt should look forward of giving them a national stature ,which unofficialy it has already occupied .

Summing up The NYC Travelogue

Exactly one month back, my visit to one of the greatest city of the world ended. But I was so much busy with so many changes happening all around me that I could not gather up my thoughts to put an end to this travelogue. NYC is a great city with undying spirit that lives 24 by 7. I enjoyed while staying, working and partying in the NYC and got to see the most enthusiastic face of life. A visit to Times Square filled me with excitement while another to Lady Liberty filled with pride (the pride of being free). WTC showed me the ups and downs of life while New York Metro taught me never to stop living, no matter what comes. This experience made me realize and know about many new things in life which will always help me.

Since childhood, I always had awe for some great cities of this earth and as I grew up and learnt more about them, the awe also grew up. First of those cities was “Aamchi Mumbai” where I spent 2 beautiful years of my life. Second in the list was New York City, which I enjoyed and shared here in my blog. Many more are left and I intend to see all of them sometime, next one in my current itinerary being Singapore where I am going to graduate in management. I will be there for next 2 years to earn an MBA from National University of Singapore (NUS) - Business School .

While writing this blog and during the last month when many people read my blog, I got various encouraging comments and I intend to keep on writing about my further experiences in life. Please keep on reading my blogs and pour in your comments so that I can make them better. And yes, do write your name with the comments if possible.

Link to my next blog is here…. “an MBA story”…..do visit.

Cheers...ManU :)
